Portray of the Destination
It is the most important touristic destination in the country, with its wide range of possibilities. Its 47 Km of beaches provide services in accordance to its hierarchy. They embrace cliffs, ravines and dunes, complementing its natural resources with its social dynamism: cinemas, restaurants, concert halls, theatres, discos and pubs. The maritime shore allows the enjoyment of large and varied beaches: the ones further south, El Faro, Punta Mogotes Complex, Playa Grande; centric beaches, La Perla and Camet and el Puerto. In order to become detached from the daily urban routine and make contact with nature, a variety of country establishments can be found.
We would like to thank the "Secretaría de Turismo" of Mar del Plata for the information and pictures provided.

Safety
Federal Police (Policía Federal) moves around in patrol cars, on foot and on horseback. Naval Police (Prefectura Naval) is in charge of the seaport area and wears brown uniforms. Certain precaution should be taken like avoiding walking at night through solitary places, leaving the flight ticket and passport in the hotel safety box and not carrying large amounts of money. Make use of radio-taxis or a remís -a car with a driver hired per hour or days-.
Taking pictures
There are no restrictions for taking pictures.
Health Care Services
The city provides essential health care through modern scientific methods, with the available technology managed by teams of qualified professionals, in order to make the service available to everyone at a affordable cost by the local government and the country.
Public Transport
All areas of the city can be accessed by the different means of transport.
Bus: The bus -called “colectivo” in Argentina- is one of the most used transport systems due to its low cost. The fare can be paid either in cash or buying an adequate electronic card which is then read on the buses electronic machines. Electronic cards must be pre-paid in authorized shops. Buses have reserved seats for the exclusive use of impaired passengers. Boarding is through the front door of the bus and exit through the back. Each different bus line is identified by a number and a colour. Different routes within the same bus line are distinguished by letters. Buses stops are usually located in the middle of the blocks.
Remís: These are regular cars that are hired by phone to the different agencies. The cars are identified by a sign on the rear window. The fare is calculated according to the distance travelled and is paid at the end of the trip. In the areas of Colonia Chapadmalal, Pueblo Camet, Sierra y Laguna de Los Padres, the city authorises a service similar to the remís called “Auto rural” (Rural Car). This type of car is best suited for the country area.
Taxi: Authorized vehicles identified by a licence number, which should be shown on the front doors of the car, placed inside the cabin on a poster and on the luminous billboard on the roof. Taxis are painted in black with a yellow roof. There is an initial fare plus an additional according to the distance and time travelled. Pay only what is on the meter at the end of the trip. Taxis can be hailed on their stops or on the street. Radio-taxi agencies send the cars to the required addresses when phoned upon.
