Plaza de las Armas
This is the historical center of the city and around the square you will find the most important buildings of the colonial government, such as:

-The Ilustre Municipalidad building which dates from the Cabildo and the old prison from the Colonial times.
-The Museo Histórico Nacional (National Historic Museum) with its several collections. It is located in the old Real Audiencia Palace.
-The Correo Central building (Central Post Office), former home of the conqueror Pedro de Valdivia, the Chilean governors and the Presidents until it was relocated in the La Moneda Palace.
-The Catedral Metropolitana (Metropolitan Cathedral), in Neo-classical style. It is the main church of the Catholic Church in Chile, where the first church was located. However, this is the fifth construction built.
