El Palacio de La Moneda (The Mint Palace) This is the present seat of the Chilean government and its Presidents. It has witnessed the most
important phases of the country’s history. In a Neo-classical style, the Palace was designed by
Joaquín Toesca, a well-known Roman architect. It is commonly called "La Moneda" ("moneda" in
Spanish means "coin"), as by the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th Century, this was the
place where the first coins of Independent Chile were made and minted. You can visit this important
monument through guide tours.
