Lonja de la Seda The Lonja de la Seda of Valencia, also called Lonja de los Mercaderes was declared Wold Heritage by
the Unesco the 7th December of 1996. It is located in the Plaza del Mercado opposite the Church of
Santos Juanes and Central Market of Valencia. La Lonja is a civil Gothic monument built between the
years 1482 and 1492 by the stonemason master Pere Compte. After his dead, renaissance features were
added. Its construction resembles the medieval castles, with its thick walls and battlements. La
Lonja is distributed in four sections: The Tower, the Consulado del Mar hall, the Patio de los
Naranjos and Salón de las Columnas. The surface area measures more than 2,000 square metres both
built and non-built areas. La Lonja of Valencia represented the city economic power at the end of
the 15th century.
