The Elche Palm Grove
The Elx Palm Grove has extraordinary value and beauty and, because of this, it was declared World Heritage Site in 2000 by UNESCO. The discovery of fossilized date stones in this area of the Mediterranean would seem to support the theory that the palm tree has been in Elche since prehistory. Nevertheless, it was the Moors who placed them as plantations creating, with the aid of irrigation, a landscape that has been indissolubly linked to Elche throughout its history.
