The Old City The historical district in the Austrian capital holds many surprises. Besides the cathedral, you
will find there the Church of the Teutonic Order of Knights; the Blutgasse, a famous little street
that was the scene of an assassination of Templar Knights in 1312 and Figarohausstraße, where Franz
Georg Kolchitzky, the creator of the city's first café, once lived. There is a really nice bookshop
in Grünangergasse, ideal for people who love reading and located near a tavern where Franz Schubert
used to go frequently. Am Hof is a square that dates back to the Roman period, with a pillar
commemorating the end of the Thirty Years' War. Nearby is the Collalto Palace, where Mozart played
the piano in public for the first time.
