The Big Easy

Portray of the Destination

New Orleans characteristics that are recognised the world over were for a time overshadowed by the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The hurricane destroyed much of the city´s construction, including the homes of its residents, and claimed many lives. Devastation pursued after the hurricane as aid and help did not reach people within enough time and the city declared a state of emergency. Many saw the city as the place “where care forgot” because many incidents occurred that could have been prevented.

However, despite the devastation New Orleans has returned to its former glory and more. It’s culture and well- earned reputation is more apparent than ever. Jazz music, the music of the city, plays through the streets and parks while many are entertained by street performers. Tourist attractions are plentiful, offering something for all and they are conveniently located next to a mass of tourist and public amenities.

The city´s Mardi Gras parade annually sets the streets of New Orleans ablaze with magical floats and costumed dancers, the festival is one not to forget. New Orleans is the home of jazz music and there is no better place to host the spectacular that is the Jazz Fest.
