Capital of the Piedmont region, Turin is located in North-western Italy, on the West bank of the
Po River. With 908,000 inhabitants, this major industrial city is also known as the home of the
Shroud of Turin and host of the 2006 Winter Olympics. The city is surrounded by the Alps and the
hills of Monferrato. Four major rivers pass through the city: the Po, the Dora Riparia, the Stura
di Lanzo and the Sangone.
Home of the main production lines of the car company Fiat, the city also offers its monuments
and buildings, such as the Mole Antonelliana, the Palatine Towers, the Cathedral of St. John the
Baptist, the Museo Egizio, the Savoy Residences, and the Royal Palace, among the most famous
ones.
